Connecting Students to Local Libraries

As a school librarian, I find that many students have a public library card, but rarely use it. The smaller county library near the school has a small collection and few activities to offer teens and tweens, so I decided to introduce them to a library 10 minutes away that afforded a place for them go to hang out, learn how to use a makerspace machine, get some exercise, and grab a bite to eat. Another thing I love about Huntington Beach library is the Teen Card--kids 13 and up can get a library card simply by showing their student ID. So I made this video (on a time crunch--wish I'd had time for cool transitions between slides) and had students come to the school library to show them the video and all the learning links I made available on Destiny Discover to sign up for reading programs, volunteer opportunities, and makerspace appointments. Not sure how successful it was--I hope to find out how many students went to the public library during the summer when we return in the fall. How do you connect your school with the local public libraries?? I need more ideas!
